Children & Teenagers

We think providing high quality youth and children’s work is very important. We have a variety of different groups suitable for all ages from 0-18, with currently over 120 youngsters between them.

THE AIM OF THE YOUTH WORK:

This purpose is made up of the 5 elements: Discipleship, Fellowship, Ministry, Worship, Evangelism.

Children and Teenagers’ Groups

The following groups meet during the 10.45am Sunday service in St. Matthew’s. We refer to the 2-11s groups collectively as the "Sunday Club".

Activities

The Bible teaching is delivered through fun and friendship, story telling, craft, games, music, meals and prayer. For the younger children, other events are also organised either for the children or the whole family e.g. activity days, swimming, picnics. The teenage groups go on their own trips, including camping and attending festivals with other groups. For the babies and toddlers, and their parents or carers, there is also Bright Lights.

Youngsters in our services

Children are welcome to all our services, though the 10.45am service at St. Matthew’s is the one where their needs are particularly catered for. The youngsters normally start the service with their families, and then leave for their groups, thereby neatly avoiding the sermon! The exceptions are services with a communion, when they go out first so they can rejoin their families just before the communion starts. Most groups occasionally take part in Sunday services and there are All-Age Services at major festivals and at some other times during the year.

Group Leaders

Group Leaders receive ongoing training and support and attend both national and local training events. All leaders are subject to our Child Protection Policy, which includes taking up references and running a Police check.
