Sunday Services

We have 3 different services, each with their own style, each Sunday: 9 am, 10:45 am and 6:30 pm. We also have Midweek Services.

The 9 o’clock is a traditional service held in the ancient but well-preserved St. Mary’s, accompanied by the organ for the hymns from Mission Praise and canticles with an average congregation of 65. Holy Communion is celebrated on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month. After the service coffee and tea are served in St. Matthew’s. Drink slowly enough and soon you’ll be mixing with the early arrivals for the 10.45 service.

A 10.45 am (or 6.30 pm) service from St.Matthew’s

Our weekly service at 10.45 am caters for all ages, its regular congregation ages from 0-90. This is the service with a crèche (with en-suite nappy change) and the Sunday Club and Zoom (for 2-14s). The musical worship is led by members of our music group, and includes songs and hymns ranging from Wesley "favourites" to the latest songs from Spring Harvest or Soul Survivor. We use a minimal liturgy from Common Worship, and have regular dramas and video items. Adults and children separate for part of the service for relevant teaching and worship.

After the service coffee, tea and squash are available. We often put a video on for the kids in one of the side rooms so that their parents can chat in relative peace for a few minutes. Private prayer ministry is also available with experienced members of the congregation.

On the 1st Sunday of the month we hold a family-friendly Holy Communion service. Children are welcome to take part, and can receive a blessing or take the bread and wine, if that’s the policy of your family.

The "6.30" is our weekly service of Evening Praise. Similar in style to the 10.45, though without most of the kids present. Holy Communion is on the 3rd Sunday of the month. With fewer time constraints we are free to explore various forms of worship. After the service coffee and tea are available, as well as prayer ministry from experienced members of the congregation.

Midweek Services

Midweek services at St. Matthew's happen to no fixed timetable: some are held on Anglican festival or Saints Days, but most on whatever day is suitable. Please see the Calendar to see when the next ones are.
